How much does therapy cost?

My current rate is $125/hour.  However, if you are using your insurance, my contracted rate is lower.  I accept all major credit/debit cards, HSA cards, cash (exact change only, please), and personal checks.

Do you take insurance?

Yes!  I’m in-network for the following networks:

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield (BlueEssentials, Blue Choice (not Medicaid), PPO for State Health Plan, Preferred Blue – PPO or EPO)
  • Cigna
  • Aetna

If I’m in-network for your plan, I will file the claim for you.  You will be responsible for paying any co-pays or the contracted rate if your deductible has not yet been met for the year.  These will be due at the time of service.

If I’m not in-network for your insurance, I can give you documentation (called a superbill) that you can send to your insurance company to request reimbursement for the charges.  This will usually go towards your out-of-network deductible, but all insurance plans vary.  I’m happy to do what I can to help you get the charges covered!

During your free 15-minute consultation, if you decide to schedule an appointment, I will request your insurance information in order to verify your benefits and to let you know what you will be charged at your first visit.

Who is therapy for?

EVERYONE!  I believe everyone can benefit from seeing a therapist from time to time to get some extra support.  New Leaf Therapy is welcoming to everyone and does not discriminate due to race, sex, gender, religion, marital status, age, sexual orientation, national origin, color, health issues, or disability.

That being said, my main population I prefer to work with is adults and adolescents 14 and up who struggle with the issues listed above.  If you’re not sure if you fit into my target group, feel free to give me a call and we can talk about it!  I may still be able to help.  But if I feel like I’m not the best therapist for you, I will try to refer you to someone else who would be a better fit for you.  I want everyone to get the best help that they possibly can, even if it’s not with me!

How long does therapy last?

Well, it depends on what issue(s) you have and how motivated you are to work on it/them.  Many people see great benefits in 10-12 sessions, and could start seeing improvements sooner.  Others may need more sessions, depending on what their issues are, how many issues they have, and how serious the symptoms are.   Therapy is tailored to each individual’s or family’s needs and may consist of weekly sessions or every 2-3 weeks for an hour.  After receiving therapy for awhile, some may need periodic “check-ups” every month or every few months to help them stay on track.

An important key to the length of therapy is doing the work outside of sessions to change habits or ways of thinking.  The more effort you put into changing and working through your issues, the more likely it is that you will benefit from therapy, and faster too.

What types of therapies are used?

I prefer to use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Person-Centered Therapy.  Basically, that means we will talk about how your feelings and thoughts affect your behaviors and work together to find different ways you can cope better and change your thinking or situation for the better.
